Why Colón?

Our world is diverse – and so are we. At Colón, we treat everyone with respect, regardless of their nationality, religion, background or sexual orientation. We believe that learning is most successful when everyone feels welcome. That is why we design our language courses to be accessible, inclusive and engaging.

Our teachers are qualified language professionals with a genuine passion for what they do. They teach using the direct method – which means you speak, listen and think directly in the target language. This makes every lesson a real experience: easy to understand, practical and full of the joy of learning together.

As a certified language school with many years’ experience, we work closely with the Employment Agency, the Jobcentre and the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees. Our courses follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) – from A1 to C2 – with precise level placement and tailored to individual learning pathways. Our quality is regularly assessed by independent accreditation bodies such as IALC, FDSV and Weiterbildung Hamburg.

Our premises in the listed Colonnades not only offer 70 modern classrooms, but also genuine Hamburg charm – quiet, central and full of character. Whether it’s German, English, Spanish or one of 18 other languages – at Colón, you can learn in the way that suits you best: on an intensive course, an evening course, a taster course or as part of a study leave programme. We offer flexible options to suit every learning objective.

What makes Colón special? We believe in learning beyond the classroom. Our free leisure activities, day trips and cultural programmes combine language learning with real-life experiences. Our learning support team is there for you even after your course has finished – offering personalised support on an equal footing.

Our strength lies in our sense of community: we work as a team, learn from one another and grow together. This ethos shapes not only how we interact amongst ourselves, but also our relationships with our course participants, clients and partner organisations.

Colón is more than just a language school – it is a place for the curious, for explorers, for people who think beyond boundaries – and who want to move forward together. Welcome to Colón!
